This year the festival focuses not only on the former region of Czechoslovakia but it also brings attention to human rights violatons in China. The 6th year festival against totalitarianism and violence - called Mene Tekel - is underway in Prague. The 7-day international festival takes place on the occasion of the infamous communist putsch in February 1948. The name of Mene Tekel originates from the Old Testament and means that deeds of all people will be weighed and balanced one day. The festival includes around 30 programs -- art projects, talks with former political prisoners and interactive programs for school children, among others. One of the interesting things in the exhibition, for instance, is this copy of a photograph. The original was taken by a camera that political prisoners secretly made out of cardboard, black paper, the lens of eyeglasses and x-ray film. [Jan Janku, Former Political Prisoner]: "It is really a unique object, it has no parallel, that something like that can be made in a prison. Nobody would believe that." Another rarity of this exhibition is a fragment of the Torah scroll. The Torah or Law is the first part of the Hebrew Bible. One day Jan Janku found it hidden and wrapped up in an old rag while he was imprisoned. [Jan Janku, Former Political Prisoner]: "I said, 'Look guys if we give it to the prison guards they would burn it, definitly they would destroy it, but the Torah has its own power, it has its predestined journey. We will wrap it up and put it to the same place we had found it and the Torah will find a way out of here.' And it did find its way out." This year the festival also brings people´s attention to the present situation in China. One of the festival guests is Mrs. Lu Shiping. She went through Chinese labor camps and was tortured because she refused to give up her belief in the spiritual discipline of Falun Gong. [Lu Shiping, Festival Personality]: "China now is the place where violation of human rights is most severe in the world and now millions of Chinese Falun Gong practitioners and their families are still under persecution and in a dangerous situation, so I think people here and in other places of the world should focus on China."
