"This is not a dream!" http://blip.tv/lavabustervault/rapid-fire-6-mars-of-destruction-5865750 I felt this installment came out alright; at least there's some atmosphere in my music choices here. :P Not to mention this is another case of me showcasing a subtitled installment, which I normally don't do (apparently, there isn't an English dub, to my knowledge). Much like how I praised Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter in my previous Rapid Fire video, Mars of Destruction is the EXACT OPPOSITE! Clocking in at close to 20 minutes, this is a viewer's worst nightmare: a messy, super-compact 'plot', generic, maldeveloped characters, nonsensical dialogue, forced moments of tension, and an overall feeling of being hurried out the door. Also, having weak, tacked-on religious symbolism adds an element of pretentiousness which doesn't belong, and thus, makes the installment much worse at the same time. What's the point? All I gathered was that humans descended from Mars, this Shinji Ikari-esque kid suits up in a rather disturbingly painful sequence to look like an Ice Trooper cosplayer (and even some parental abuse): http://www.metroidwiki.org/wiki/File:Ice_Trooper_mp1_Screenshot_01.png Also, http://www.google.com/imgres?q=ice+trooper+wiki&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=627&tbm=isch&tbnid=V9dHfzza0zT-RM:&imgrefurl=http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/File:Ice_Trooper.png&docid=bkDR15e2b5RGtM&imgurl=http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090429194316/metroid/images/e/ee/Ice_Trooper.png&w=780&h=442&ei=9aAFT8LdN6n50gHituzVDw&zoom=1 In general, I felt that if this installment were expanded to say, 6 or more episodes (hell, maybe a maximum of 13), then Mars of Destruction could've been decent (though generic), but still WAY better than this one-shot OVA. Obviously, the length is a big contributing factor to the massive suckage, although it still pales in comparison to creative installments with actual length, like Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne and Ah My Buddha, which simply waste their time and fail ever so epically. :( Themes Used: Intro: Game Start (Hirokazu Tanaka; Metroid OST, 1986) Ending: Menu Select Theme (Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma; Metroid Prime OST, 2002)

Jan 5, 2012 - Yep. NES Metroid in the intro, and Metroid Prime in the end; I got the themes I used in the description. Thanks for commenting, man! :)

Jan 5, 2012 - LMAO! Chihiro you weren't dreaming unfortunately. That piece of donkey piss exists. Mars of Destruction is the worst series EVER! Poor production values, shitty plot, zero structure, desecration of classical music, and full of faux symbolism.

Jan 5, 2012 - Indeed, although if this OVA were extended to say, 6 episodes, I would've concluded that it would be below mediocre. Still, I find installments, like Afterworld, Street Fighter Alpha Generations, Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, and Ah My Buddha to suck even harder (since they have plenty of space/length) to make a worthwhile series (but failed...epically!). Anyway, thanks so much for commenting! :) I appreciate it; catch you on the flip side.

Jan 5, 2012 - Nice. I've never heard of this anime before. BTW, what did you use for your ending theme? I've heard it in one of MagusX1's older intro's?

Jan 6, 2012 - My themes are mentioned in the description; it was the Menu Select theme in Metroid Prime on GC. Anyway, thanks for commenting; I appreciate it. :)
